This week in Reception has been packed with exciting discoveries and celebrations!

We began with an autumnal walk around the playground, where the children hunted for signs of the season. It was a wonderful way for them to connect with the changing world around us.

In the classroom, the children were thrilled to find feathers, sparking a lively discussion about where they might have come from and which animals have feathers. This curiosity was the perfect lead-in to our new focus story, Owl Babies.

Our Diwali celebrations were a highlight of the week! The children made beautiful diyas to represent the Festival of Lights and participated in a dance workshop inspired by traditional Indian dance, helping them connect with the story of Rama and Sita in a hands-on way.

In maths, the children worked on developing their early number sense, practising subitising, recognising numerals, and exploring different compositions of numbers 1, 2, and 3. They enjoyed using objects to represent amounts and discovering various ways to combine these numbers.

To mark Bonfire Night, the children created vibrant firework artwork, using different colours and textures to mimic the sparkle and excitement of fireworks.

It’s been a fantastic week full of learning, celebration, and creativity, and we’re excited to see where their curiosity will take us next!
