Happy New Year!

I hope you’ve had a wonderful start to 2025! It’s been a magical and exciting week in Reception, bursting with curiosity and creativity.

At the start of the week, a mysterious magical seed appeared in our classroom! The children were buzzing with excitement as they discussed what it might need to grow and made predictions about what it could become. After planting the seed and saying some special magic words, the children were amazed to find it had grown into an enormous turnip overnight!

This surprise led us into our new focus story, The Enormous Turnip. The children loved acting out the tale using props, which helped them explore characters and understand the story structure.

In Maths, we’ve been learning how numbers can be made up of smaller parts and developing an early understanding of how to record mathematical findings. The children also began exploring zero, learning how it represents “nothing” and how it fits into number problems—a big step in their mathematical journey!

It’s been a fantastic start to the term, and we’re so excited to see what next week has in store!
