Early Years 2024 25

The children have been absolutely fascinated by our fluffy new visitors! They watched in amazement as the chicks hatched in the incubator and have carefully observed their growth each day. It’s been a truly magical experience!

To capture these special moments, the children have been writing in their Chick Diaries, documenting everything from the first tiny cracks in the eggs to the chicks’ wobbly first steps. Their creativity has shone through as well—they’ve made colourful posters and even designed little enrichment items for the chicks to enjoy in their run!

Alongside caring for the chicks, the children have been learning all about the life cycle of a chicken, from egg to fully grown hen or rooster. We also had some lively discussions, including the big question; “What came first, the chicken or the egg?”.

Most importantly, we’ve been so proud of how gently and respectfully the children have handled the chicks, showing kindness and care at every opportunity. What a fantastic hands-on learning experience this has been!
