Early Years 2024 25

In literacy, the children have been exploring the story ‘There’s No Dragon in This Story’ as part of their Talk for Writing sessions. They have enjoyed linking characters from the story to those found in traditional tales. This has helped them build connections between familiar narratives, identify common themes, and deepen their understanding of how stories are structured.

In maths, the children have been learning about number bonds to 10. Using stem sentences, 10 frames, and part-part-whole models has supported their understanding of how numbers are composed.

During Science Week, the children have been busy investigating and experimenting. They explored the power of magnets, learning how magnetic forces can attract and repel. Through chromatography, they discovered how colours can separate and create fascinating patterns, building their understanding of scientific processes. Using microscopes allowed the children to observe tiny details that are often hidden from view, sparking curiosity and encouraging them to ask thoughtful questions about the world around them. A huge thank-you to the fantastic staff and students from Wollaston School for guiding the children and providing such a rich learning experience.

The children have also been designing their own costumes for role play. This creative process has encouraged them to develop their fine motor skills, make independent choices, and express their ideas confidently. It has been wonderful to see their imaginations come to life as they proudly showcased their designs.

The children have shown fantastic engagement and enthusiasm this week, developing their knowledge, skills, and creativity across all areas of learning. Well done to everyone!
