Term 4 spelling shed lists 21 to 26

Firstly, I would like to applaud the year five (and six) pupils who performed at Young Voices. ‘Proud’ does not adequately express my feelings. It was such a special occasion and the children behaved impeccably, remaining cheerful and courteous throughout and singing and dancing their hearts out. What an achievement for them!

As ever, I would like to thank you all for your continued support with reading at home. The reading challenge is on and our pile of read books is nearly to the top of Peter Andre’s thigh! Come on, year five!

To end last term, the class enjoyed a ‘computing day’, learning how to code and operate microbits. Amongst other things, they made name badges, simple animated sequences and a basic pedometer. Great fun was had.

In literacy, we are learning about myths and legends and how to write one. The children are currently writing their cold tasks, full of dragons and adventure.

In science lessons we have begun to learn about the human life cycle and its different stages. Our topic title is ‘Humans and other animals’ and we will also be learning about mammal development, comparing the gestation periods of a range of mammals and looking for patterns. We will also be studying how the human body ages, planning and carrying out sight tests which simulate the effects of old age and learning about how and why bones change as we age.

This week, the class have enjoyed a science workshop in the hall, kindly funded by our wonderful parent commmittee, completing a range of interactive activities about the human body and how it works.

Our new history/geography topic is Ancient Benin. We will be locating the continent of Africa on globes and maps and will be naming and locating some of its countries. We will be learning about the kingdom of Ancient Benin and its rise and fall, which will necessitate learning about the British Empire. We will examine some of the great artworks of Ancient Benin and will use these as inspiration to  plan and make our own sketches and sculptures.

We are continuing with our music unit of work and the class are learning to rap and play ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ with enthusiasm. I am very impressed with their skills. The music has a fast tempo and they are rising to the challenge.

Homework and spelling routines remain the same, thank you. Spelling tests on Friday;homework books in on Friday.

Forest School is on Monday afternoons every week until the Easter break.

P.E. lessons continue to be on Friday.
