The children have been fully immersed in the excitement of the festive season while continuing to develop important skills.
The children have been busy writing letters to Father Christmas, carefully practising our handwriting and sounding out words to ensure Father Christmas knows exactly what’s on those wish lists! The children also created and wrote thoughtful Christmas cards for their friends and family, using their growing phonics knowledge. Their creativity truly shone when they worked together to design and build a cosy house for our class elf to live in – a perfect blend of teamwork, imagination, and problem-solving!
In Maths, our little postal workers took on an exciting challenge! They delivered letters by finding matching numbers and exploring number compositions. The children demonstrated fantastic number recognition, counting skills, and an impressive understanding of how numbers can be made up in different ways. They carefully matched the correct amounts and posted their letters into the corresponding post boxes – a fun and practical way to develop their mathematical understanding.
The highlight of the week was a special visit from Father Christmas himself! The children were invited into Cogenhoe’s beautifully lit Forest School grotto. Snuggled up with a warm hot chocolate and a cookie, they listened in awe as Father Christmas read Aliens Love Panta Claus. It was such a magical moment that filled the air with joy, excitement, and festive spirit.
A truly magical week full of learning, laughter, and Christmas cheer!
