On Friday, Year 4 visited a Gurdwara in Northampton – a Gurdwara is a Sikh temple. Upon entry, we had to cover our heads, remove our shoes and wash our hands as a sign of respect. We were shown the place where the Guru Granth Sahid – the Sikh Holy book – is worshipped and a presentation was made to explain the various beliefs and rituals. A follower of the Sikh faith then sang part of the scripture aloud and we were given permission to look at where Guru Grath Sahib is kept. All the children showed great respect to the Sikhs who were hosting our visit. We then shared in Langar – a meal shared by Sikhs in their community dining hall – where all are welcomed, regardless of faith.
