Early Years
And so the adventure begins!
Welcome to Cogenhoe’s Reception & Pre-School provision
At Cogenhoe Primary School we intend for all of our pupils to be independent, well-rounded, curious individuals who embrace risk taking. Within our exceptional Early Years setting, we prioritise children’s social and emotional well-being above all else, as without this, the intention of instilling a life-long love of learning and endless amounts of courage and confidence would not be possible.
Our staff hold the same shared belief that all children have their preferred way of learning. Therefore, we do not believe that every child should fit the curriculum; the curriculum should fit every child. We pride ourselves on ensuring that our curriculum captures every child’s imagination and brings it to life the way they see it; engaging with their personal interests effortlessly inspires and motivates every child to achieve their true potential.
Our wonderful Reception class is an exciting and engaging environment where children embark on their school journey. We believe that high-quality learning and teaching is the entitlement of all children and should meet their individual needs and interests, ensuring they develop across all the prime areas. To support a smooth transition into Reception, we offer fantastic Pre-School provision. Our Pre-School provides children with valuable learning experiences that prepare them for the next step in their education. Head over to our Pre-School page to find out more. We recognise that all children learn at different rates and are each at their own stage of development. Children thrive when they feel happy, secure, and actively involved in their learning. At Cogenhoe, we have a number of ‘Curricular Goals’ that we aim for children to achieve by the end of the year, supporting their progress as they grow in confidence and independence.
Please see the ‘Prospective Parent’ page for our open days, where we invite you to come and see the magic for yourselves. Individual tours can be arranged, please speak to office on 01604 890380 or email us at [email protected]

Welcome!
Firstly, a warm welcome to EYFS! We are excited to have your child join us and look forward to a wonderful year ahead.
We wanted to share some key information regarding our weekly activities and important reminders:
- Forest School: This will take place every Monday. The school will provide waterproof overalls, but please ensure your child has a pair of labelled wellington boots. These can either be kept at school or brought in on Mondays. As we move into the colder months, please ensure your child is dressed warmly for outdoor activities.
- Book and a Biscuit: Every Wednesday, from 8:45 am to 9:00 am, we invite you to join your child in the classroom to share a book and a biscuit. It’s a lovely opportunity to spend some time together and foster a love of reading.
- PE: PE lessons will be held every Thursday. Ideally, PE kits should remain at school throughout the term and will be sent home at the end of each term for washing. Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled to avoid any mix-ups.
- Hot Dinners: Please note that all hot dinners must be ordered by Wednesday of the previous week. This ensures that we can adequately prepare and cater for all students. If you have any questions about ordering hot dinners, please reach out to the office for assistance.
- Nut-Free School: A gentle reminder that Cogenhoe is a no-nut school. This is to ensure the safety of children with severe allergies
Thank-you for your cooperation and support. We are excited to embark on this journey with you and your child!
